What is In Depth Counseling all about?
The goal of in depth counseling is to go beyond the outer manifestations of your concerns to explore their meaning for you. We then explore your needs around them, and search for a way to fulfill those needs. In this way you are establishing a new basis of relating to your true Self. One that holds honor, acceptance and compassion.
What can I expect the work to be like?
Our journey together will begin by looking at what brings you here today. Then we will go over a history of your life to get an idea of what brought you to the present. We will also pay attention to what your unconscious mind has to say. Much of its knowledge is stored in your body. It speaks in dreams, in sensations and emotions, in journaling and any form of creativity or play.
The foundation of my work is Jungian or Depth Psychology, based on the work of C.G. Jung. Who believed that each person has their own unique path to follow in this world. He believed in the importance of working with the whole person, mind, body and spirit. Jung also believed that if we look at only the rational, logical side of a situation, we are thrown off balance, into the masculine, or yang side of our being. He knew it was also necessary to be informed by the unconscious, the intuitive, dark, but receptive side, the feminine or yin side. It may speak symbolically, but if we honor it, we can intuit its message and use it's guidance to aid us on our path of healing and wholeness.
I work with adolescents and adults in a one on one setting. I enjoy working with depression, anxiety and stress, past or present trauma, eating disorders and issues, life transitions, women's issues and life's meaning. From time to time I offer a group based on Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, and, also Authentic Movement groups. I accept many insurances. I will be happy to speak with you about my fees and to talk about any financial considerations you may have.
If this resonates with you, I hope that you will call, or email me so that I may answer any questions you may have.
